More trips on select routes to meet ridership demand

, NJ – NJ TRANSIT will adjust bus routes September 2, with modifications including extended routes, added trips and more frequent trips to better serve customers.
To help alleviate overcrowding, 18 trips have been added to high-volume routes, and adjustments have been made to another six routes to reduce time between trips. School trips, suspended over the summer months, will resume.
Other routes will be modified or extended to link customers to employment, shopping and recreation destinations. Trips on certain routes will be added or changed to better synchronize bus and rail schedules.
These adjustments are part of a scheduled system-wide bus timetable change. Customers are encouraged to review timetables available aboard buses, at customer service offices, online at www.njtransit.com or by calling 1-800-772-2222.
County-by-county highlights effective Sept. 2
Atlantic County
- 501 Atlantic City – Brigantine Beach: An additional trip at 2:30 a.m. will fill a schedule gap to provide hourly service around the clock.
- 505 Atlantic City – Margate – Longport: On Saturdays, the 7:55 p.m. trip from Margate will operate to the Atlantic City Inlet.
- 508 Atlantic City – Richard Stockton College – Hamilton Mall: The daily 6:45 a.m. trip from Atlantic City will operate via Absecon Manor in Absecon to serve employees there. On weekends, the 6:45 p.m. trip will be extended beyond Richard Stockton College and continue to Hamilton Mall, as it does on weekdays.
- 553 Atlantic City – Upper Deerfield: Select daily trips will be extended in Upper Deerfield to the new Wal-Mart on Rt. 77 at Northwest Avenue.
Bergen County
- 144 Fair Lawn – Hackensack – New York: The 7:20 a.m. departure from New York to Paramus will now depart at 7:15 a.m., with an additional trip at 7:30 a.m. to alleviate overcrowding.
- 154 Fort Lee – Palisades Park – New York: The schedule for morning peak- period service will be modified to better match customer ridership patterns.
- 158 Fort Lee – Edgewater – New York: The time between departures from New York during afternoon peak periods will be reduced to address overcrowding. The interval between midday departures from New York will increase to 30 minutes.
- 159 Fort Lee – New York: A morning peak inbound trip to New York and a new midday outbound trip to Fort Lee will be added to alleviate crowding.
- 163 Ridgewood – New York: Select midday and reverse peak trips will be extended from Garden State Plaza to IKEA on weekdays and holidays. School trips will be reinstated.
- 165 Westwood – New York: Six trips will be added to the Saturday schedule between 7-11 p.m., including four outbound and two inbound trips. Four local trips will supplement the Sunday schedule between 9-11 p.m., two in each direction, to help alleviate overcrowding.
- 166 Dumont – Tenafly – New York: Adjustments include the addition of 11 trips into and out of New York on Sundays at various times of the day, as well as one inbound and one outbound trip to the Saturday evening schedule. The 5:55 p.m. departure from New York to Palisades Park on weekdays will be discontinued.
- 321 Vince Lombardy Park & Ride – New York: Weekday 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. trips are being restored to alleviate overcrowding on the 167 line.
Burlington County
- 419 Burlington – Riverside – Philadelphia (via River Road): Direct service to the 36th Street River LINE station is being added. The limited late-night service to Cindel Drive (Cinnaminson) will be discontinued due to low demand.
Camden County
- 403 Turnersville – Lindenwald – PATCO – Philadelphia: Select midday trips will be adjusted weekdays to serve Wal-Mart in Turnersville via the Jarvis/Sicklerville Road branch.
- 406 Berlin – Marlton – Philadelphia: A new 6:04 a.m. trip from Philadelphia will be added to the Saturday schedule to relieve overcrowding.
- 419 Burlington – Riverside – Philadelphia (via River Road): Direct service to the 36th Street River LINE station is being added. The limited late-night service to Cindel Drive, Cinnaminson, is being discontinued due to low demand.
- 551 Philadelphia – Atlantic City – Ocean City: A 6:20 a.m. weekday express trip from Avandale to Philadelphia will be added to the schedule. The frequency of service will now be hourly during midday hours on weekdays.
Cumberland County
- 553 Atlantic City – Upper Deerfield: Select daily trips will be extended in Upper Deerfield to the new Wal-Mart on Rt. 77 at Northwest Avenue.
Essex County
- 62 Newark – Woodbridge – Perth Amboy: Weekday afternoon service will be modified to alleviate overcrowding and to accommodate a change in the Linden High School dismissal time.
- 67 Toms River – Lakewood – Newark: Service will be restored to autumn levels. To reduce trip time, the routing of the afternoon 67B trip will operate on Raymond Boulevard to NJ Turnpike Exit 15E, departing Newark six minutes earlier at 4:52 p.m.
- 70 Newark – Livingston Mall: On Saturdays, an early westbound trip from Newark will be added to address overcrowding. The two weekday evening trips from Newark that currently terminate in Springfield will now terminate at the Maplewood Loop.
- 75 Butler – Newark: Three peak morning trips and two afternoon trips on this weekday-only route will be discontinued.
- 76 Hackensack – Newark: An earlier weekday morning trip from Newark will be added to alleviate overcrowding on the current first trip of the morning.
- 94 Stuyvesant Avenue Crosstown: Autumn weekday service levels will be restored and adjustments will be made to reflect changes in hours at East Orange Campus High.
Gloucester County
- 403 Turnersville – Lindenwald – PATCO – Philadelphia: Select midday trips will be adjusted on weekdays to serve Wal-Mart in Turnersville via the Jarvis/Sicklerville Road branch.
Hudson County
- 87 King Drive: Autumn weekday service levels will be restored with additional morning peak and mid-afternoon trips.
- 124 Harmon Cove – New York: Two late-evening trips will be added to serve UPS workers.
- 154 Fort Lee – Palisades Park – New York: The schedule for morning peak- period service has been adjusted to better match customer ridership patterns.
- 320 Mill Creek – Harmon Meadow – North Bergen Park & Ride – New York: To alleviate overcrowding, weekday service will be offered at 15-minute intervals (instead of 20 minutes) inbound between 10:50-11:50 a.m. and outbound between 10:20-11:20 a.m.
Mercer County
- 606 Princeton – Mercerville – Hamilton Marketplace: Service between Princeton Shopping Center, Redding Terrace and Princeton Care Center will be reduced on select trips throughout the day due to low demand.
- 609 Ewing – Quaker Bridge Mall – Mercer County Community College: The 7:13 a.m. trip from Quaker Bridge Mall will operate via the Library for the Blind in Ewing in response to a customer request. Trips that operate on school days will resume.
Middlesex County
- 62 Newark – Woodbridge – Perth Amboy: Weekday afternoon service will be adjusted to alleviate overcrowding and to accommodate a change in the Linden High School dismissal time.
- 64 Lakewood – Jersey City – Weehawken: A 7:33 a.m. trip from Gordon’s Corner Park & Ride to Jersey City via Hoboken will operate Mondays and Tuesdays as part of the regular schedule.
- 113 Express Dunellen – New York: Two morning peak weekday trips will be added to alleviate overcrowding. The trips originate in Plainfield and Scotch Plains in Union County.
- 139 Lakewood – Old Bridge – New York: Schedule changes include the restoration of a weekday 2:51 p.m. trip from Old Bridge, trips from New York at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 a.m. Sunday, and the elimination of select Friday morning trips.
- 804 Metropark Loop: A trip will be added in the evening peak period to give customers an additional train connection.
- 980 New Brunswick – Piscataway: The route was modified on August 14 to provide better connections with NJ TRANSIT trains and to provide later service from Piscataway to New Brunswick.
Monmouth County
- 64 Lakewood – Jersey City – Weehawken: A 7:33 a.m. trip from Gordon’s Corner Park & Ride to Jersey City via Hoboken will operate Mondays and Tuesdays as part of the regular schedule.
- 139 Lakewood – Old Bridge – New York: Schedule changes include the restoration of a weekday 2:51 p.m. trip from Old Bridge, trips from New York at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 a.m. Sunday trip, and the elimination of select Friday morning trips.
Ocean County

- 75 Butler – Newark Three peak morning trips and two afternoon trips on this weekday-only route will be discontinued.
- 193 Pompton Lakes – Packanack Lake – Willowbrook – New York: Two morning peak express trips to New York from Rt. 23-Wayne will be added. One morning peak express trip from Willowbrook to New York will be discontinued. A 3:40 p.m. trip will now be offered on Fridays.
Somerset County
- 884 Somerville – Clinton Connection: Minor revisions were made on August 14 to improve train connections. Service to Centerbridge and Ethicon was discontinued.
Union County
- 62 Newark – Woodbridge – Perth Amboy: Weekday afternoon service will be modified to alleviate overcrowding and to accommodate a change in the Linden High School dismissal time.
- 113 Express Dunellen – New York: Two morning peak weekday trips will be added to alleviate overcrowding.
- 986 Summit – Murray Hill – Plainfield: The route was modified August 14 with midday service added to serve the new Summit Medical Group complex in Berkeley Heights.
