ARCA RE/MAX Series Race No. 21, ARCA RE/MAX American 200, Rockingham Speedway, Rockingham, North Carolina

Race Information: Event: ARCA RE/MAX American 200, Sunday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m. Local Time Track: Rockingham Speedway Qualifying: Saturday, October 10, at 2:00 p.m. Local Time Track Length: 1-mile paved oval.

Kansas Speedway Recap: ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran driver Patrick Sheltra made the best of a tough situation last week at Kansas Speedway. After starting the 20th event from the ninth position, Sheltra blasted into the top-five but his No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger got loose underneath another car and spun before being plowed into by another competitor. The damage was massive but the Sheltra Motorsports team never gave up and Sheltra was able to recover for a stupendous 11th place finish.

Last Time Out: Indiantown, Florida native Patrick Sheltra will make his third career start at Rockingham Speedway on Sunday afternoon. In April, Sheltra was impressive to say the least. A week after notching his first career victory, Sheltra qualified a career best third and bettered that performance with a runner-up finish in the Carolina 200. Sheltra left April’s race with the RE/MAX Series point’s lead.

It’s All For The Cause: This weekend at Rockingham Speedway, Patrick Sheltra and his Whitesville, Kentucky team will sport a pink camouflage No. 60 Toyota Camry to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. Sheltra will also boast a pink uniform which will be auctioned off following this weekend’s season finale at Rockingham Speedway with the proceeds going to Sheltra’s Breast Cancer Awareness charity, Kimmie Cares.

Who Is Kimmie Cares? The Kimmie cares doll, book, from The Partners For A Cure Foundation address two critical and often overlooked issues for women with cancer - helping moms explain the effects of cancer to their small children, and helping both child and adult share their fears and feelings so they can remain close during this time of illness. While many other organizations fund cancer research, donating money for equipment, new medicines and scientists' salaries, the The Partners For A Cure Foundation takes a somewhat different approach. Proceeds generated from the sale of the Kimmie Cares doll as well as donations collected through other means are distributed not to scientists, but to individuals with cancer. PFACF helps patients who are struggling financially from the high costs of cancer treatment and related cancer care expenses.

Don’t Forget About The Bracelets Too: Sheltra Motorsports, Buffalo Wings & Rings and Kimmie Cares have joined efforts with totalracebabe.com who has created special “Together We Can Make A Difference” bracelets which are available to friends, family and associates who want to show their support of Breast Cancer. The bracelets are available now through Sunday, November 15th through the team’s web site at PatrickSheltra.com or BuffaloWingsandRings.com and KimmieCares.com. A large percentage of each bracelet will be donated to Kimmie Cares through the Eliza Ranieri Foundation. Race fans will also have the opportunity to purchase the bracelets this weekend at Rockingham Speedway.

Racing In Her Honor: The loss of a loved one to Breast Cancer hits close to home especially within the Sheltra Motorsports and Buffalo Wings & Rings tier as fellow team member and Buffalo Wings & Rings franchisee owner Leonard Ranieri tragically lost his wife, Eliza Ranieri last October to the disease. The team is racing in her honor this weekend at Rockingham Speedway. The team will carry “In Loving Memory of Eliza Ranieri” in their traditional spot on the spoiler this weekend but also carry her wings on the hood for Sunday’s race.

Moving Forward Again: For the second time this season, Sheltra Motorsports will turn to a Toyota Camry as their primary manufacturer of choice in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Purchased from Germain Racing through the Hattori Racing Enterprises outfit, Sheltra Motorsports ran the No. 60 Toyota Camry in the Racing for Wildlife 200 but while running in the top-five, the motor seized forcing a disappointing debut with the Japanese automaker. Germain Racing’s Mike Abner will be on-hand to assist and support the veteran ARCA team this weekend at “The Rock.”

The Coach Still Coaching: 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) champion Ted Musgrave will be on-hand at Rockingham Speedway this weekend as the driving coach for the 23-year old phenom. Musgrave is familiar with Rockingham Speedway after running 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events at the legendary track from 1990-2000. Musgrave has been serving as Sheltra’s driving coach since July.

Rain, Rain Go Away: Sheltra Motorsports had hoped to test at Rockingham Speedway this past Monday but Mother Nature forced the cancellation of the private test at the 1.0-mile oval. Five other teams were on-hand to prepare for the season finale for the ARCA RE/MAX Series. In the spring, Mother Nature also hampered testing for racing at “The Rock” as periods of rain postponed the test by three and a half days.

Points Check: After round 20 on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Patrick Sheltra sits seventh in the championship standings accumulating 4195 points. Just 110 points separate Sheltra from the fifth position. Car owner Grace Sheltra remains solidly in the top-10 in the car owner standings.

Patrick Sheltra ARCA Career At-A-Glance: Entering Rockingham, Sheltra has 66 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated 10 top-fives and posted 22 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.

Winners Announced For The Ultimate Hunting Experience!: Sheltra Motorsports and Patrick Sheltra would like to congratulate Corey Lacosta and Ray Sasser who were the 2009 winners of the Sheltra Motorsports Hunting Extravaganza. Both winners will be able to join the Sheltra Motorsports drivers (Patrick Sheltra and Shannon Babb) for a weekend get-away to the Sheltra’s hunting ranch in Dryden, Texas this winter. The team will re-launch the program for the 2010 racing season.

Sheltra Motorsports, Rockingham Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Patrick Sheltra, driver of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings-Kimmie Cares Toyota Camry:

On Kansas Speedway: “Even though we had a tough race, I learned a lot. Our Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger was stout but we had a bad aero loose condition which was the culprit for the spin. The Sheltra Motorsports team came together and we worked as a team to earn that 11th place finish.”

On Rockingham Speedway: “I’m glad to be back at “The Rock.” It’s a neat place with a lot of history. I wasn’t so keen for this place in 2008 but after our strong run in April, it’s a track I couldn’t wait to get back too. We should be pretty strong this weekend, so I’m looking forward to the last race of the year.”

On His Breast Cancer Awareness Promotions: “Real men wear pink (laughs). We announced last week at Kansas Speedway that we were partnering with Kimmie Cares to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and this is probably one of the coolest ways to do it. I’m actually really honored to have a pink car and uniform for Rockingham this weekend. Our goal is to raise $25,000.00 from now until Homestead next month and I think we can pull that off.”

On His Plans For 2010: “We’re working hard to finalize everything for next year. The good news is we’ll be racing. We’re just working hard to finalize our marketing partners and put a solid game plan together for 2010. It’s going to be a good year for Sheltra Motorsports; I know that.”

Sheltra Motorsports, Rockingham Speedway Pre-Race Quotes: Grace Sheltra, owner of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings-Kimmie Cares Toyota Camry:

On Kansas Speedway: “The bad luck we experienced is another bullet point to the season we’ve had. The bright side is the team worked together through the turbulence and were able to turn what could have been a really bad day and piece together a solid finish.”

On Rockingham Speedway: “We’re looking forward to Rockingham Speedway this weekend for a lot of reasons. Patrick feels he can better his second place finish from April with a win and our new paint scheme. Breast Cancer Awareness is very important to this team and we plan to do everything within our power to educate others.”

On Sheltra Motorsports 2010 Plans: “We’ll be racing next year. We look forward to putting all the pieces together to make next year our biggest year of success yet. We’ll announce something here very soon. Before we can focus on next year though, we need to get through Rockingham and the rest of our NASCAR Nationwide Series commitments.”
