JUSTIN, Texas (November 2, 2009) - - It’s been seven months since Fast Track Racing driver Bryan Silas has sat behind the wheel of a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) truck but Silas will put that stat to rest as he’ll climb aboard his No. 48 Rockingham Speedway-Polar Bear 150 Chevrolet Silverado for Friday night’s Lone Star 350K at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS).
The Stuart, Florida native will make his 10th career NCWTS start and his first at the ultra-fast one-and-a-half mile oval this weekend. However, there’s more than just finishing inside the top-10 on Friday night, Silas is also hoping to acquire early track time for the ARCA Racing Series (ARS) anticipated return to the Texas track in 2010.
“I’m excited about getting back in a truck, especially at Texas,” said Silas, who enjoyed a stellar season in the ARS by finishing sixth in the championship standings. “My goal is to go out there and gain plenty of track time with the intentions of hopefully scoring a top-15 finish. It’s been a while since I’ve been in a truck but I’m looking forward to again being apart of the excitement that the series brings.”
The 22-year old added, “I’ve been told that the ARCA Series will be racing at Texas next year and should that be true, without a doubt, the track time I obtain on Friday night will put me ahead of the game for next year. The vehicles are completely different but I will be learning the preferred line and experiencing the changing track characteristics.”
The Rockingham Speedway logo will adorn Silas’s Chevrolet for the 23rd race of the season but the team will utilize the TMS event to promote the upcoming Polar Bear 150, a street-stock event pioneered by nine-time ARCA Champion Frank Kimmel.
“The Polar Bear 150 is a big deal for “The Rock”, offered Silas. “Frank did a tremendous job with the event last year and I am dedicated to bringing further awareness about the event and hopefully some exposure to bring the fans to the track on New Year’s Day 2010!”
In his nine previous NASCAR truck starts, Silas has scored a career-best finish of 16th notched in the 2009 season opener at Daytona International Speedway. He also led one lap in that event. On Friday night, the former late model driver will make his third start of the season.
Friday’s Lone Star 350K is set for Friday, November 6, 2009 with a scheduled liftoff time of 9:00 p.m. Eastern. The event will be televised on SPEED with additional broadcasting coverage available through the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM-Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128.
