New York Woman Rewards Chicago Driver—Gems Worth $60,000.
Special to The New York Times.
CHICAGO, Feb. 1.—Sam Mandell, a driver for the Yellow Taxicab Company, received a generous check today from Mrs. A. A. Schlessinger of New York City as a reward for his honesty.
A week ago Mrs. Schlessinger, who is the wife of the President of the Steel and Tube Company of America, lost a jewel case in the taxicab in which she was driving to the La Salle Street station. She did not miss the case until she was on board a train speeding for New York. The jewels had been turned in by the driver and deposited for safe keeping in a bank.
Today Mrs. Schlessinger arrived in Chicago to claim her property. The jewels were worth $60,000, she said. This was the second time she had lost them in a taxi.
