INDUSTRY IN INFANCY. Publication: The New York Times Byline: W.C. Marmon Date: 27 October 1907 Note: Part of a subsection called “How Auto Manufacturers View the Trend of Car Development” |
What the steam railroad meant for the stagecoach, the motorcar means for the pleasure carriage. What the traction engine did to the “horse-power,” will be done by the motortruck to the horse dray. There are individual plants in this country turning out the common buggies by thousands each week. Every one of the users of these buggies is a prospective customer for a motor vehicle, and the motor vehicle industry is just in its infancy. The future motorcar industry is bright for the country in general, and for the manufacturer, in particular, who has had manufacturing experience and who conducts his business with prudence and progressive conservatism.
