Two vehicles have been involved in a road traffic accident in the Western Isles of Scotland. As a result of the collision, which occurred at 0635 GMT on the Tarbert - Stornoway road on the island of Lewis on Saturday killed the sole occupant of one of the vehicles, who was a 26-year-old man. The Northern Constabulary, the police force in the Highlands and Islands, said that he came from the area. At least five people in the other vehicle were injured. The injured people were transported to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway and were treated for abdominal, chest and neck injuries. The road was closed for several hours to allow police examinations to take place. Pentland Road, the alternative route round the area was also closed due to the snowy road conditions.
