Detroit Company Buys Buicks to Replace Cab Fleet

Detroit, Aug. 22.—Detroit Cab Company, present style of an organization that has been in business in Detroit since 1901, has bought from Buick Motor Car Company 220 seven-passenger sedans, and will dispose of its present fleet of short wheel base cabs.

“Frankly, we are taking a leaf out of the book of the taxicab driver who operates his own cab,” said I. S. Scrimger, general manager of the company. “Detroiters in particular have been generally educated to luxury in public transportation, and we are simply meeting a very evident demand. Our order to Buick calls for the delivery of forty cars in August, sixty in September, 100 in October and twenty in November. Our present cabs we are disposing of a few at a time. Some of them have already been sold for use in Canada.”

The new taxicabs are the standard 1926 Buick six-cylinder chassis, with a 128-inch wheel base, fitted with a special Fisher sedan body for seven passengers.
