Iowa wind ruins vacation

Gus Philpott

Day 1. Leave Woodstock. Head west on two-week vacation in the West. Truck running well. Fifth-wheel trailer pulling smoothly. All secure.

Hour 6. Vacation ruined near Newton, Iowa.

Woodstock residents Steve and Michelle Kaiser left Woodstock on Friday, August 30, planning to enjoy two weeks in their 5th-wheel "home" with their two dogs. West of Newton, Iowa, wind caught the camper, and the truck and camper ended up in the median, wrecking both the camper and the diesel-engine, king-cab pick-up.

Steve reported that his motorcycle rode out the upset in its stored and well-tied-down position inside the rear of the camper.

One of their two Corgi's died in the wreck, and the other, named Guiness, ran away and hasn't been found yet. The dog is micro-chipped and will likely be found. It's a friendly dog, and the Kaisers look forward to a call, informing them that it has been found.
