David A. Price Named FHWA Manager for Transportation Security

Federal Highway Administrator Mary Peters has announced that David A. Price has been named to serve in a new position as the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) program manager for transportation security.

"America's surface transportation system is vital to our economy, defense, and quality of life," Peters said. "Dave's long and varied experience at the FHWA and in transportation will be a great asset as we work with our state and local partners to keep our nation's infrastructure as safe as we possibly can."

In his new capacity, Price advises the administrator and other FHWA senior officials on sensitive matters involving the protection of infrastructure and on the maintenance of transportation services during and after national or regional emergencies. He also serves as FHWA liaison to the new Transportation Security Agency, which coordinates all security-related activities within the U.S. Department of Transportation. Both FHWA and TSA are agencies of USDOT.

Price, who has served with the FHWA for 30 years, was most recently the manager for professional development in the agency's Office of Human Resources. Before that, he was team leader for the federal-aid program group in the Office of Program Administration. He previously served as assistant division administrator in the FHWA Connecticut Division office and as a district engineer in the West Virginia Division office. He joined the agency in 1971 as a highway engineer trainee.

The FHWA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It has 2,850 employees, a field office in every state, and an annual budget of more than $30 billion.
