Mooresville-Based Race Team Closes in on ARCA Series Title

Sheltra Motorsports leads tight point standings with two remaining events

MOORESVILLE, NC (September 22, 2010) – Sheltra Motorsports occupies one of the nicer race shops in the now famous Lakeside Business Park in Mooresville, NC. Ten years ago, the shop at 217 Rolling Hill Road and others surrounding it were all owned by the big Winston Cup competitors. As the larger teams left for customized buildings elsewhere, the properties then became welcome opportunities for competitors like the Sheltra Family, who moved their entire racing operation here from Whitesville, Kentucky in January of this year.

Sheltra Motorsports, owned and operated by driver Patrick Sheltra and his parents, Richard and Grace, had been pondering a move to “Race City USA” as far back as 2008, but had to wait until the lease ran out at their previous address. When that occurred at the close of 2009, the team transplanted their entire organization. According to Sheltra Motorsports Communications Manager Chris Knight, there were many reasons for choosing Mooresville as the next home base for their growing ARCA race series team.

“Moving to Mooresville was more than a blessing for us,” says Knight, reflecting on the cross country trek. “When compared to our operation back in Kentucky, we now have such an increase in proximity to our vendors, our networking connections, more opportunity and, obviously, a much deeper talent pool of potential employees with a tremendous amount of racing experience to draw upon,” he added.

The move to Mooresville significantly raised the team’s profile. Company officials have been delighted with the influx of visitors eager to get a glimpse of the shop in action—and even meet the driver, Patrick Sheltra, who happily signs autographs when onsite.

With just two more events listed on the 2010 ARCA Racing Calendar, the team is also cautiously optimistic of the fact that they are leading the championship point battle. Currently, Patrick Sheltra holds a slim 15-point advantage over the second place team of Tom Hessert. The ARCA Series will first visit Kansas Speedway for the Kansas Lottery 150 on September 29th, then hit the season finale at Rockingham Speedway on October 9th for a double-header racing event billed as the American 200. For local Mooresville fans wishing to travel to the event, Rockingham is a scant two-hour drive out Highway 74 East.

The American 200 race is a double-header, comprised of the final championship points-paying event for both the ARCA and UARA Late Model Series. The UARA Championship event gets underway at 11:00 a.m. for 75 laps around the one-mile speedway. The ARCA Championship 200-lap race follows with a projected start time of 1:00 p.m. The race weekend also includes a driver autograph session for the fans prior to the events.

Tickets for the American 200 on October 9th, 2010, can be secured by calling the ticket office at Rockingham Speedway at (910) 205-8800 or they can be purchased online by visiting: www.rockinghamracewaypark.com.
