German Police: 13 Dead in Polish Bus Crash

VOA Breaking News

Thirteen people were killed and dozens injured, some seriously, in eastern Germany Sunday when a bus carrying Polish tourists crashed on a highway outside Berlin.

Authorities say the bus was returning to Poland from a holiday tour in Spain.

German police say early evidence shows the bus hit a bridge pillar after swerving on the rain-slicked highway to avoid a car trying to enter the A10 highway near Berlin’s Schoenefeld airport.

The crash closed the normally busy highway for hours and hundreds of rescue workers supported by medical helicopters were at the scene.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited the crash site and thanked the emergency workers for their help.

Some information in this story was provided by AFP and Reuters.
