Spanish Formula One driver Fernando Alonso has won the crash-filled Singapore Grand Prix, leading the 61-lap race from start to finish.

Alonso started his Ferrari in the pole position Sunday, and managed to hold off Red Bull racer Sebastian Vettel of Germany to take the checkered flag by just two-10ths of a second. Championship leading driver Mark Webber of Australia took third place for Red Bull, 29.1 seconds back.

The result tightened up the championship standings, with Webber clinging to the top spot with 202 points, while Alonso is second with 191.

British driver Lewis Hamilton is third for McLaren with 182 points. But he failed to finish his second straight race after a collision with Webber ended his Grand Prix. Race stewards investigated the crash but took no action.
