MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (March 10, 2011) - - Michael Dabney Jr. wasn’t expecting to be racing this weekend but sometimes the racing “Gods” open up and drop blessings when you least expect it. Dabney Jr. will no longer have to wonder when he will hit the asphalt for the first time this season as the Crandall, Texas sensation will race at Anderson Motor Speedway (AMS) in South Carolina in Saturday’s INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series event.
Dabney Jr., behind the wheel of the No. 5 machine will look to strengthen his racing resume after a solid foundation in 2010 has the now Mooresville, North Carolina resident itching for more.
“It all came together pretty quickly,” said Dabney Jr., talking about the decision to race. “A little bit of faith and a lot of determination equaled results. I’m really appreciative and thankful to all my supporters for allowing me the opportunity to drive this weekend.”
Having the benefit for working for the newest NASCAR empire, Turner Motorsports, Dabney Jr. luckily hasn’t lost the groove for the competitiveness and drive in racing – but this driver / owner is appreciative for the opportunity to exchange his uniform and sit at the controls.
“Working for an organization like Turner Motorsports is incredible,” sounded Dabney Jr. “I literally picked up all of my belongings, my Legend Car and my truck and made the long trip to North Carolina – all hoping to live out a dream. I haven’t set a time line for making those dreams come true, I’m just taking all of the good things happening in my life one step at a time.”
He added, “being able to work with a lot of talented individuals at Turner will no doubt help me become a better race car driver. I’m pretty hard on myself and undoubtedly want to leave Anderson with a win. But, I’m just thankful to be racing and looking forward to making the best of the outing.”
Looking ahead, Dabney Jr’s future is unknown but the 21-year old is extremely optimistic. “I think it’s safe to say I’ll be doing some more racing this year. When I’m not focused on my duties at Turner, I’m diligently figuring out to keep my name out there as a driver. I’ll do some more Legend Car Series races and hopefully have a shot at some Late Model racing too.”
