Robb Brent Discovering; Enjoying Other Aspects Of Racing

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Michigan (May 20, 2011) - - While Shelby Township, Michigan native Robb Brent may be not be in a race car, he is doing just about everything that he can to stay near the cockpit, including spotting and serving as a driver coach.

Last weekend, the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards which is recognized as one of the most diversified series in the world competed at Toledo Speedway. While Brent, a recent college graduate wasn’t in the driver’s seat he attended the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care to get acquainted with Sean Corr.

Earlier this week, Corr’s team Empire Racing announced that they had hired Brent to assist the Goshen, New York native in his road racing debut. Brent will attend this weekend’s ModSpace 150 festivities including shaking down the team’s No. 82 Roush Yates Performance / Roush Yates Engines Ford Fusion before taking to the spotter’s stand for the fifth race of the season.

New Jersey Motorsports Park though wasn’t the only venue on Brent’s schedule this week. On Tuesday, Brent returned to Chicagoland Speedway to spot for Ken Schrader Racing and ARCA championship contender Tom Hessert. Before Tuesday, Brent had never spotted before but instantly gained a lot of respect for the fellow spotters.

“Tom (Hessert) and the team were very friendly and professional working with me,” said Brent, who is the most recent ARCA winner at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. “It was fun to experience the other side of the headset during a track day. I had a great view of Chicagoland Speedway. Later in the day, as I became more comfortable, I spotted but also recorded lap times of the other cars at the test to compare notes with later.

I do have respect for the spotters because the driver depends on them to make the right call at the right time. It does have some pressure on you even at a test because you don't want to waste laps stuck behind slower cars or have the driver not hear you because you are talking to quiet. You have to be on your game all day and focus on your job. It was a great experience and could help me next time I'm in the car see things a little differently. It is something I will definitely do again.”

As far as this weekend’s concern, Brent is determined to help Corr reach his first career top-10 finish in ARCA Racing Series competition.

“It seems like they have a great operation over there at Empire Racing and I’m thankful and humbled by their faith in me to come and coach Sean this weekend. He is a good guy who loves to race. We get along real good and he pays attention to details. I’m looking forward, even though I’m not racing to getting behind the wheel of their No. 82 Roush Yates Performance / Roush Yates Engines Ford Fusion and dialing it in and then hoping to help steer Sean towards a good run in the race on Sunday!”

Following Sunday, Brent plans to return to his home state of Michigan where he will also be in attendance at the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards open test at Michigan International Speedway on Wednesday, May 25th in preparation for The RainEater Wiper Blades 200 on June 17th.

As far as Brent’s 2011 racing endeavors, he is hoping to make an announcement soon.
