Indian police say an express train has collided with a crowded jeep in the northeastern state of Bihar, killing at least 16 of the jeep's passengers.

Police say the jeep was driving across an unmanned railway crossing in Madhubani district when it collided with the train Sunday.

All but one of the people killed on the jeep were women. Another four passengers on the vehicle were seriously injured.

The victims were traveling to a victory procession for a politician who was elected to lead a local village. No other details of the accident were immediately available.
