CONCORD, North Carolina (June 17, 2011) - INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series contender Michael Dabney Jr. is off to a solid start to begin the 2011 edition of the Summer Shootout at Concord (N.C.) Motor Speedway. An open-practice session last week, followed by additional practice this past Monday gave the rising star some momentum heading into competition.

After qualifying through his heat race on Monday night, Dabney Jr. started deep in the competitive field but during the 20-lap feature, the Crandall, Texas native wowed the crow with his intimidating yet veteran-like driving style. Passing his competitors without a scratch, Dabney Jr. took the checkered in the 15th position.

Thirsty for more during Tuesday’s contest, Dabney Jr. showed immense focus and determination. Qualifying on Tuesday afternoon showed a tremendous gain in speed and comfort with the quarter-mile oval. During his heat race, Dabney Jr. drove the wheels off his No. 5 automobile during the eight-lap sprint to claim a wowing second place podium finish.

Starting in the 16th position for the 20-lap feature, Dabney Jr. cleverly crafted his race car through the stout competition including making a daring three-wide pass to inch his way through the running order. Turning some of the fastest laps on the track, the 22-year old would fend off his challengers to claim a satisfying and well-earned seventh place finish in the second round of the Summer Shootout.

“After Monday’s performance, I made some changes to the car and it adapted very well,” said Dabney Jr. “Monday’s run was positive but Tuesday’s results were gratifying and really pumped up my confidence heading into next week.”

With another round of practice set for Monday, June 20th before the third of 10 races ignites on Tuesday night, Dabney Jr. is working hard to make sure he can improve off this week’s performance.

“I had a top-15, then a top-10, now I’m anxious for a top-five or even a win,” Dabney Jr. sounded. “They are some very good drivers in this division, so this year’s Shootout is no piece of cake. All I can do is keep adjusting on the car; stay focused and hope luck will remain on my side.”

The Mooresville, North Carolina resident also showed extreme gratefulness and remains heavily humbled by all of the support he’s received thus far. “I cannot tell you what it means to me to have some of the people that I care about the most standing by me and supporting me 100 percent. I want nothing more than to win a couple of these things to show them how much it really means to me. Words will never be able to express how lucky I really am.”

Practice begins at 5:00 p.m. and concludes at 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 20. The third race in the 2011 edition of the Summer Shootout kicks off on Tuesday, June 21st and will conclude on Tuesday, July 26th.
