CONCORD, North Carolina (June 13, 2011) - INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series Summer Shootout contender Michael Dabney Jr. is revved up and ready to go when action begins tonight at Charlotte (N.C.) Speedway to kick off the 2011 version of the Summer Shootout.

Dabney Jr., a native of Crandall, Texas is itching to stir up the competition in his No. 5 automobile and he looks to branch out of the woodwork as a sleeper and turn some heads with some welcomed trips to victory lane.

10 races spanned over the course of seven weeks will be tough on any young team or driver but the now Mooresville, North Carolina resident is confident than ever and is relying on one word, momentum.

“I’m more than ready,” said Dabney Jr. “This year’s Summer Shootout is very important to me. In fact, it’s one of the main reasons I moved to North Carolina in December. The goal is to be in contention and score some victories. I know if I can keep my nose clean and show some patience, I’ll be around when it counts.”

With just 20 laps set for the feature, Dabney Jr. knows that qualifying will be incredibly crucial for the tight quarter-mile track.

“Testing last week was a huge,” the 22-year old said. “I was able to get out there and really spend some time getting my car comfortable. I’ve made some additional changes since the test, so hopefully when everything gets going Monday afternoon, I’ll be in good shape. Much like all tracks in racing, track position is critical and tonight will prove to be no different.”

When asked what are his primary goals for this year’s Summer Shootout, the rising phenom paused but offered a quick reply.

“The goal is to finish up front and try and win some races. Of course, I would like to be the one that everyone is chasing over the next 10 weeks, but it’s about being realistic too. I’m appreciative that I’m able to race in the Summer Shootout this summer. Hopefully, I’ll have some good luck and I can make some noise of my own.”

In-between practice and the Monday’s opening night, Dabney Jr. headed north to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway where he met with one of the strongest teams on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards circuit who likely will develop his growth in the stock car world over the next couple of years.

“I had a really good time at Pocono,” Dabney Jr. sounded. “I learned a lot about the series, cars and people. I’m not in any hurry to race in ARCA, but the team I met with does compete in other racing divisions that will help my learning curve. I’m optimistic about the future, but I’m thankful that teams and people are at least talking to me and interested in my well-being and future.”

The first race in the 2011 edition of the Summer Shootout kicks off on Monday, June 13th and will conclude on Tuesday, July 26th. Action begins at 5:00 p.m. Monday night with the 20-lap feature for the Pro Legends division set to take the green flag at approximately 9:45 p.m.
