Fast cars are synonymous with the rich and famous, but it seems that if recent studies are anything to go by then women don't trust a man who drives one. The research has likened men who drive Porsches to peacocks and says that men who drive these sorts of cars are see them as a way of grabbing women's attention.
But we women can see through these ploys as we often correctly identify that men are more likely to be looking for flings than actually searching for lasting romance should they be driving a Porsche. The research showed that women think that showy men who flash the cash have sex on their minds and are less bothered about leaving a lasting impression, and although they might go out on a date with them, a man with a fast car is as attractive a bet as your average guy.
The study, carried out in the United States at the University of Texas this month has revealed that fast cars may send out the wrong message about your personality, and that women are less likely to "woo with waste" meaning that they are less interest in wasting their time on men that they might not want to settle down with. It seems that in terms of cars, women are more impressed by a man with a sensible car; something that has more than two seats, a good cargo capacity and is good value to run. In our heads we associate this with the idea that the man is thinking about the future and how their car will adapt.
‘Although showy spending is often perceived as wasteful, frivolous and even narcissistic, an evolutionary perspective suggests that blatant displays of resources may serve an important function, namely as a communication strategy designed to gain reproductive rewards.' Said Dr Vladas Griskevicuis of the University of Texas.
