“Rising Phenom Scores Trifecta In 2011 North Texas Shootout”


NORTH WICHITA FALLS, Texas (September 9, 2011) - Crandall, Texas native Michael Dabney Jr. has taken the word momentum and turned it into domination as the 22-year old has scored the opening three victories in the 2011 edition of the North Texas Shootout at Red River Speedway (RRS).

Dabney Jr., No. 5 Michael Dabney Jr. Motorsports (MDM) entry elected to stay in the Lone Star state after competing in the Thursday Night Summer Stampede at Texas Motor Speedway last month. The success from that event which included two wins propelled the Mooresville, North Carolina-resident to remain within his stomping grounds to focus on the six-day affair at RRS.

Action began Tuesday, September 6 with Dabney Jr. dominating the field in his INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series automobile and taking the checkered flag in the feature to record his fifth overall victory of the season. Dabney Jr., who also competed in the Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, has yet to relinquish the checkered flag to any of his other competitors after thundering to back-to-back victories on Wednesday and Thursday night respectively.

With round four set for tonight, the rising phenom enters the track as the man to beat.

“I’m having an absolute blast right now,” said Dabney Jr. “This has been a total team effort and for us to already have three wins in three nights at Red River is very humbling. We work hard and never give up, even in times of doubt. This is the reward that makes it all worth it.”

He added, “more importantly, I have to thank Hank Scott and all of his folks at Real Race Cars for their devotion and dedication to my team. I also know I wouldn’t be where I am today without my dad either. These trophies are just as much his as they are mine, because I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.”

Round four through six at Red River Speedway takes place from September 9-11. Racing begins Friday and Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. with Sunday’s finale set for liftoff at 12:00 p.m.

Once his racing endeavors are complete in the Lone Star state, he will return to North Carolina and re-focus his racing efforts for the remainder of the 2011 season and brace for 2012.

“We have the big Legends race in Las Vegas in October which will be our main focus after Red River,” Dabney Jr. explained. “After that, it’s back to work on enhancing my racing career. There are some irons in the fire and I’m hoping that something will pan out that will allow me to move up the ladder into another division in 2012.”
