ASHEBORO, North Carolina (September 15, 2011) - - This Saturday night will close another year of competition for Ryan Wilson and his Ryan Wilson Motorsports (RWM) team at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway in the No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry.
While circumstances beyond the team’s control have thwarted their efforts towards a NASCAR Whelen-All American Series (NWAAS) championship, the RWM team will still enter Saturday night’s race as if they were racing for a championship while also focusing on grabbing their first victory of the year.
Wilson, a native of Randleman, North Carolina has had an incredibly strong season at Caraway. After 17 races this season, Wilson has delivered two poles, nine top-fives and 15 top-10 finishes including a third place finish in his most recent outing on August 26.
Sheer determination and drive is the fuel that Wilson will be thriving on under the light Saturday night. The winner of last Fall’s Richard Petty Driver Search II knows that the competition will be stiff – but he also knows that he has one of the hardest working teams in the garage. Thus, the 19-year old is hoping those efforts will lead to victory.
“It’s really all or nothing for us this weekend at Caraway,” said Wilson. “The RWM bunch has done a fantastic job all season long with our No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry. We’ve been contenders through much of the year but we just haven’t been able to seal the deal with a visit to victory lane. Believe me, we’re going to try and put a period to that on Saturday night.”
Knowing that a 100-lap dash can go quickly at the Asheboro, North Carolina oval, the rising star knows the importance of starting near the front. “We had a pole in our last trip to Caraway, so I’m hoping we can do it again on Saturday. You always know that with the invert draw, there’s that potential to slip you back in the pack. For us, it’s going out there and doing our job but most importantly contending for that checkered flag when lap 100 strikes.”
Wilson symbolized how important it would be to put his No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry back in victory circle.
“I believe we’re long overdue for a win,” sounded Wilson. “We found ourselves in the hunt several times this year, just for one reason or another we were defeated. Definitely winning a race in your final race of the year gives you a boost heading into the off-season and whatever the incoming season creates.”
Although, Saturday night’s race will be the last time that the No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry shines under the lights at the historic track, Wilson will continue a hectic schedule.
Following his Late Model event, Wilson will prepare for a trip to Kansas Speedway where he will participate in an open test session for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driving for Minnesota’s Win-Tron Racing.
“I’m actually excited about getting back in an ARCA car,” said Wilson, who will compete in the Kansas Lottery 98.9 at Kansas Speedway on October 7. “I’ve enjoyed working with Nate (Thiesse, co-car owner), Mike (Chaffee, crew chief) and the rest of the group. Kansas will be a new challenge for me, but I’ll be heading to the test with an open mind and a firm agenda.”
Wilson will pilot the No. 32 Champion Brands Toyota Camry at Kansas Speedway and the season finale at Toledo Speedway on Sunday, October 16. Additionally, RWM has not ruled out competing at additional Late Model events at tracks throughout the state of North Carolina during the remainder of the 2011 racing season.
