FINDS FAULTY BRAKES ON 20% OF AUTOMOBILES

IN tests conducted recently by the New York Automobile Club in Nassau County, 20 per cent of the cars examined had defective brakes and 81 per cent had imperfect headlights, club officials announce. Only 24 per cent of the several thousands of cars tested during the month's safety campaign, it is said, were classed as "perfect"—that is, able to stop within twenty feet from a speed of twenty miles per hour. In 20 per cent of the cases the brakes were classed as "poor," or unable to stop the car in less than 35 feet, and in 56 per cent of the cases they were found "fair."
