Office of Joseph P. Kennedy
9 May 1961
Mrs. Evelyn Lincoln
The White House
Washington, D. C.
Dear Evelyn:
It is my understanding that the President donated to the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Institute in Washington, D. C. his 1959 Pontiac Bonneville.
Last week I requested cancellation of insurance coverage on this car and today learned that it will be necessary to return to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, 100 Nashua Street, Boston, Massachusetts the Massachusetts number plates attached to this car. It is not permissible to cancel Massachusetts Auto Insurance unless the number plates are returned to the Registry.
I would appreciate it very much if you will have Muggsy locate the number plates from this 1959 Pontiac and return them to the Motor Vehicles Registry, advising me at this office when the plates are forwarded so that my records will be complete.
As the situation now stands, the President's Auto Liability Insurance Policy is still in effect until such time as the number plates can be located and returned. Your assistance in this matter will be very much appreciated.
Best regards,
Gertrude Ball
