The 1970s

Category: Chronological Archive
Description: The age of the American muscle car came to a close, squeezed out between rising insurance rates and low gasoline supplies. The United States Environmental Protection Agency was founded in 1970 and a new automobile age began, one where fuel efficiency and safety took a much higher precedence than ever before. Automakers were slow and unsure in how to adapt, and it led to some of the most awkward designs and low performing vehicles in what's still known as a Dark Age for the American automobile.
