In January 1999 was named administrator of traffic safety programs for NHTSA.
Description of Rose McMurray from the NHTSA press release titled ROSE McMURRAY NAMED HEAD OF NHTSA TRAFFIC SAFETY PROGRAMS: "McMurray is a graduate of West Virginia University and has progressed through a number of key management positions in DOT and its Research and Special Programs, Federal Transit and Federal Highway Administrations. During her tenure with the U.S. Department of Transportation, she also has served on and led a number of high level task groups within the Office of the Secretary of Transportation. She held a number of senior leadership positions in the Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA), including a one-year assignment as the acting administrator of the agency in 1993. In 1996, she left RSPA to assume the position of Director of the Office of Motor Carrier Safety and Technology in the Federal Highway Administration. She has been in that position until this move to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration."
