SUMMARY: On July 11, 2013, Fastec Industrial Corporation (Fastec) notified the NHTSA that it decided a defect exists in certain door locks with model numbers 40610, 43610, and 44610 and manufactured between January 2006 and April 2013 with a keyed paddle handle and deadbolt. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock while it is in a horizontal, 9 o'clock position, potentially jamming the deadbolt. If the key is removed while in the 9 o'clock position, the interior side of the door lock may be inoperable and a passenger inside the vehicle may not be able to exit without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury. This matter was assigned recall number 13E-039. Fastec has supplied the NHTSA with a purchaser list identifying 124 manufacturers that may have incorporated these door locks into their recreational vehicles. However, a Part 573 Report has not been filed by all of these potentially affected recreational vehicle manufacturers at this time. The purpose of this EQ investigation is to write to the companies that purchased the Fastec door locks, notify them of this defect, and ensure thorough safety recalls are conducted where appropriate.
