FMVSS NO. 401, INTERIOR TRUNK RELEASE
This new standard requires passenger cars with a trunk compartment to have an
automatic or manual release mechanism in the trunk compartment that unlatches the
trunk lid. This standard became effective on September 1, 2001; however, certain
vehicles are exempt from this requirement until September 1, 2002. See 66 FR 43113
dated August 17, 2001. Canada does not have a standard similar to this
requirement. The statement of conformity has been updated to reflect this new
standard.
MAIL
All RI facilities must be located in the United States. All mail submitted to NHTSA by
RIs should therefore be mailed from within the US. If mail is sent from outside the US, it
will be returned to the RI. All mail sent by an RI must have the RI's business name, RI
number, and return address clearly marked on the package or letter. Mail that is not
clearly marked will have the lowest priority.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT LETTERS
This year we will be sending RIs a letter after we have received their application with all
of the necessary information and fees for FY 2002.
CREDIT CARDS
We are now accepting three new credit cards for payment of fees. The following credit
cards may be used for payment of fees: VISA, Master Card, American Express,
Discover, and Diners.
