STATE TRAFFIC SAFETY INFORMATION
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has compiled current information (as of January 1, 1998) about traffic safety issues for all of the states in a single document. State Traffic Safety Information lists motor vehicle fatalities and fatality rates for each state and for the United States as a whole in a number of areas such as alcohol-impaired and speed-related crashes. For each state, there are estimated economic costs for crashes and the dollar value borne by employers. The individual state data sheets break out the deaths by alcohol and speed related, safety belt and child safety seat usage, and motorcycle helmet usage.
There is also information on the status of important drunk driving laws such as Administrative License Revocation, .08 BAC per se, zero tolerance for drivers under age 21, and graduated licensing, and sources of NHTSA highway safety program funds. NHTSA plans to update the booklet annually. An example for the state of Ohio is below.
