May 14th 2013 - INDIANAPOLIS – Ed Carpenter drove his busiest day of the first four rounds of Indy 500 practice Tuesday, as the team owner/driver of the Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet put in 50 laps at the 2.5-mile legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.

The biggest difference Tuesday was the change in temperature, nearly 30 degrees warmer than just two days ago. The 85-degree heat made for completely different conditions from Sunday’s 55-degree, windy weather. Tuesday’s track temperature was 114 degrees.

At the end of the day, Carpenter clocked a best speed of 220.897 miles per hour in his 34th lap. Tuesday was also the busiest day at IMS this year with 34 drivers recording speeds and 2226 laps completed.

Fastest speed of the day was clocked by two-time 2013 race winner James Hinchcliffe, driving Marco Andretti’s No. 25 RC Cola Chevrolet to a 224.210 m.p.h. reading.

Following “Hinchtown” Tuesday was J.R. Hildebrand at 223.652, Andretti (in his own machine) at 223.570, Helio Castroneves at 223.556 and defending series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay at 223.332. The top six cars on Tuesday were powered by the Chevrolet V-8 twin turbo engine.

Wednesday’s practice action gets underway at noon, as preparations ramp up for the 97th Indy 500.
