ROBERSONVILLE, N.C. – Things didn’t exactly go as planned for 17-year-old Garrett Marchant last Friday at East Carolina Motor Speedway.
Marchant had high hopes heading into the limited late model division feature May 2 at the three-eighths-mile asphalt oval, but lingering issues with his No. 77 entry relegated him to a sixth-place finish.
“It was a stressful day for us,” Marchant said. “We went in with high expectations and were hoping to ride our wave of momentum to a victory. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.”
Upon unloading the car and preparing it for practice, Marchant and his team discovered that the car wouldn’t start. They spent most of the day tracking down the gremlins that caused the problem, forcing them to miss qualifying.
Eventually they got the car ready to race, but the team needed a push to get the car started. Marchant, with no practice time in his car, made little progress during the race and finished sixth. On the positive side of things, Marchant did move up to fourth in the division championship standings.
“I have to thank my guys for working their tails off to try and fix the thing. I hate we couldn’t fix our issue at the track, but we will be back. We are going to do some testing to improve. We haven’t tested yet this year so I’m looking forward to making strides as we go into the summer months,” Marchant said.
Marchant returns to action on May 16 at East Carolina Motor Speedway in the limited late model division.
