ROBERSONVILLE, N.C. – Garrett Marchant is hoping to turn a solid fifth-place finish at East Carolina Motor Speedway on April 4 into a victory this Friday in limited late model competition at the three-eighths-mile oval.

Seventeen-year-old Marchant qualified third in the last event at East Carolina, but fell back during the early laps of the event. The caution he was looking for in the closing laps never came, so he settled for a respectable fifth-place finish.

“I was just trying to save my tires. The first couple of laps everyone was racing real hard and using up the tires a whole lot and I was too,” Marchant said. “We fell back a little bit and the leaders kind of checked out. I decided to play it smart and just save a little bit and if the caution had come out I believe we could have finished top two or three in that race. Unfortunately we didn’t get that caution.”

Marchant’s focus for the 2014 season will be the limited late model track championship at ECMS, so another strong run this Friday night will go a long way towards accomplishing that goal.

The key, according to Marchant, is figuring out how to get through East Carolina’s tricky turn two.

“The key to East Carolina is to get off of turn two,” Marchant explained. “Turn two is the absolute hardest corner you will ever take. Turn two is basically a ninety degree turn. That’s what it feels like at least. You go down a hill and then back up a hill so you’re spinning tires about halfway down the back straightaway. It’s just a real fun race track.”

The North Carolina native firmly believes his team will find victory lane sooner rather than later.

“To run as good as we did (in the last race) I’m pretty confident that our chances are going to be pretty good this Friday,” Marchant said. “We have some pretty good stuff underneath us this year, so I’m pretty excited. We don’t even have our shocks back yet, so I imagine once we get them back we’ll pick up even more.”

Marchant will once again carry primary sponsorship from EDK Electric & Power onboard his No. 77. He’ll also receive support from long-time sponsor LSCAutoShipping.com, who will serve as his secondary sponsor. Other supporters include AFG Home Improvements, Kim’s Sweet Sensations and Grill Grip.

“I can’t thank everybody enough for helping me out, especially all of my partners,” Marchant said.

Marchant is also planning on fielding his fan car again at the end of the season. Anyone that makes a donation to the team will get their name on the car during the last race of the season. For information on the fan car, email info@garrettmarchant.com.
