KENLY, NC (March 2 3013) This weekend Garrett Marchant got back into his saddle, as he took the reins of the number 77 Lone Star Car Transportation / @WalgreensCVAZ Chevy in the first race of the 2013 season at Southern National Motorsports Park. 16 year old Marchant finished eleventh when his fast charging Chevy died under the second caution of the 35 lap Charger race. He started eleventh as well after his transponder did not pick up his qualifying speed and had to start at the back of the pack.

When the green flag came out for the race, Marchant put his petal to the metal as his No. 77 was blazing through the field. He past five cars in less than three laps and definitely looked to be the car to beat. Unfortunately when the car lost power, came in to the pits, and the team took the time to see what the issue was, they were unable to get the car restarted for the remaining 24 laps.

“This was obviously not the way myself or the team wanted to start this season. We learned some thing’s today that are going to help us be stronger though. I was using a secondary engine as well, which was not up to our team standards. The new one should be in and ready to go for the 16th and I can’t wait to race hard again,” Marchant explained after climbing from the No. 77.

When Garrett Marchant’s day concluded behind the wheel he did take time, like always, to go meet the race fans that came out to the track. In addition, Marchant signed autographs and collected money for his Racing 2 Cure efforts that will continue through the 2013 season. Marchant and team will return to Southern National, located in Kenly, NC, on March 16 when the No. 77 AFG Home Improvements / Kim’s Sweet Sensations Chevy competes in the Charger race.
