MassDOT replaced one of the I-195 bridges over Fairhaven's River Avenue using four prefabricated modular deck beam elements (MDB) this past weekend.

The project is just one example of how MassDOT is advancing prefabricated bridge elements to accelerate bridge construction (PBES/ABC).

While this is MassDOT's fourth project to use MDBs, it is the first that has the parapets cast as part of the composite unit.

The units weigh approximately 50 tons each. Mobility impacts on the $5.5 million project were limited to a weekend, starting at 9 p.m. this past Friday until 6 a.m. Monday morning.

Many thanks to MassDOT for sharing their project success!
