BROOKLYN, Michigan (June 11, 2008) - - On a streak of three consecutive top-10 finishes in ARCA RE/MAX Series competition, Win-Tron Racing has tapped ASA Midwest Tour Series standout Chris Wimmer to pilot the team’s No. 32 Dodge Charger in Friday’s Racing for Wildlife 200 at Michigan International Speedway.
chris.jpgReturning to the ARCA RE/MAX Series exactly one year later, Wimmer, the younger brother of NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Scott Wimmer returns to Michigan International Speedway looking to finish what he started. In his first tango with the Minnesota-based Win-Tron Racing, Wimmer qualified a stout 13th and found himself solidly in fourth before the engine seized forcing a 33rd place finish.
Looking back on his effort, Wimmer isn’t fazed by the finish but encouraged by the performance and hopes the team will rekindle the same type of results they produced at MIS this week.
“I’m glad to be back with Win-Tron Racing,” said Wimmer, a native of Wausau, Wisconsin. “We had a good run at Michigan last year; we unfortunately just couldn’t seal the finish we wanted. I’m coming back on a mission and hoping to deliver Win-Tron Racing with their fourth consecutive top-10 effort.”
When asked about racing at a track like Michigan International Speedway, Wimmer acknowledged by saying, “It’s a lot of fun. There’s plenty of room to go out there and run hard. If you have a mistake there is room for error and you can pick up the throttle and get back in your game. If you have a good car and motor, your job can be easy. The competition from what I’ve heard has really stepped up in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this year. I’m ready to experience it for myself and grab my first career ARCA top-10 finish.”
Dominick Casola and Andy Hanson have all had their shot behind the wheel of the No. 32 Win-Tron Racing Dodge Charger and with a “second chance” to climb into one of the strongest entries on the circuit; Wimmer wants to make the best of it.
“I can’t say enough about the Win-Tron Racing team,” Wimmer said. “This is a great team surrounded by excellent people. I really enjoyed competing in one of their cars last year and I cannot wait to get behind the wheel Thursday. I just want to thank them for giving me another shot.”
Win-Tron Racing’s Nate Thiesse offered on Wimmer’s return; “We’re glad to have Chris Wimmer back at Win-Tron Racing. He is an exceptional racing talent and we’re glad that he was available to drive this week at Michigan. I know he wants to put a period to his previous run at Michigan and we’re all confident he’ll do that in an impressive way Friday.”
Wimmer has spent the 2008 season competing in the ASA Midwest Tour Series. After four races the 28 year old sits sixth in the championship standings with two top-10 finishes.
Entering Michigan, Win-Tron Racing sits 14th in the ARCA RE/MAX Series owner’s standings after eight races. 50 credits separate car owner Kevin Cywinski from the 13th position held by Andy Hillenburg (No. 11). The team advanced three positions from their last outing at Pocono Raceway last Saturday.
Win-Tron Racing Driver Development and Red Line Oil will sponsor Wimmer’s Dodge Charger this week at Michigan International Speedway. The former NASCAR driver will make his second start at the two-mile speed plant on Friday afternoon.
