Porsche have announced the new edition of the 911 GT3 Cup race car, which will lead to a roadgoing 991 GT3.

The new 911 GT3 Cup will run in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The GT3 Cup is powered by a 3.8-litre six-cylinder flat engine. It generates 460 bhp at 7,500 revs, surpassing it's predecessor by 10 bhp. A six-speed dog-type gearbox developed by Porsche Motorsport, which is operated via shift paddles at the steering wheel for the first time in a Porsche brand trophy race car, transmits the power to the rear axle.

“The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit,” says Porsche works driver Timo Bernhard, who was involved in the development of the new vehicle. “The car is excellently balanced. The new axle geometry is enormously positive for the handling. Apart from that the new Cup 911 is great fun to drive.” It's not hard to tell Timo is German is it

The GT3 Cup is produced on the production line in Stuttgart alongside the road legal models. It is then taken to Porsche's Motorsport Centre in Weissach where it receives a general set-up for circuit racing and tested by a professional race driver before delivery.

The new Porsche GT3 Cup is available only in white and costs €181,200 (£146,058). Expect a road going 991 GT3 to be available before the end of 2013.
