Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement regarding the announcement that General Motors will close its Moraine, OH, plant by Dec. 23, 2008:
“This is sad news for working families throughout the Miami Valley. And it didn’t have to be this way. Years of misguided Washington energy policies that have kept American energy supplies under lock and key, made us dangerously dependent on foreign oil, and driven up gas prices, ultimately destroying American jobs — just as energy reform advocates warned would happen. It is sadly ironic that this news comes on the very day Speaker Pelosi sends the House home for the rest of the season without a vote on the comprehensive energy reform strategy Americans need and want.
“The families affected can be assured that I and the other members of the Miami Valley congressional delegation will work closely together to help our community deal with the impact of this troubling news. They are in our thoughts and prayers, and we stand ready to help.”
