Congressman John Boehner
February 28, 2012
In a radio interview this morning with Brian Thomas on Cincinnatis 55 KRC-AM, Congressman Boehner addressed skyrocketing gas prices across the country as well as President Obamas refusal to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that would help create 20,000 jobs. With gasoline at its highest price ever for the end of February, and Ohios average price a staggering $3.77 per gallon, Boehner highlighted House Republicans American Energy Initiative and House-passed jobs bills that would increase American energy production and address rising gas prices. Congressman Boehner has called on President Obama to get serious about working with House Republicans on increasing production.
Listen to Boehner discuss House Republicans plans to increase energy production and address rising gas prices here:
BOEHNER ON RISING GAS PRICES AND DEMOCRATS BLOCKING NEW AMERICAN ENERGY PRODUCTION:
You know, we had this problem four or five years ago when gasoline got up over 4 dollars a gallon. We tried four or five years ago to get the Democrats to work with us to increase American energy production. They wouldnt do it and we couldnt get a bill to the president deskthe fact is for 35 years a handful of radical environmental groups have prevented the American people from a national energy policy that would have moved us awfully close to being energy self-sufficient. Why were sending billions of dollars to the Middle East every year makes no sense at all.
BOEHNER ON HOUSE-PASSED LEGISLATION EXPANDING PRODUCTION TO CREATE JOBS, ADDRESS HIGH PRICES:
Listen, weve been out there talking about it and we are going to continue to talk about it. The week before last we passed the American Energy Act that would open up the inter-mountain West, would open up parts of the Gulf of Mexico that have been off limits, and would increase American energy production.
BOEHNER CALLING ON PRESIDENT OBAMA TO JOIN HIM IN SUPPORTING THE KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE:
We again tried to force the president’s hand to approve the Keystone PipelineWeve got 165,000 miles of pipeline in the United States. We know how to do this safely, we know how to do this efficiently. And if we want to fill our refineries with Canadian and U.S. oil, its the Keystone Pipeline that will make that happen. Not sitting around waiting for more oil from the Middle East.
BOEHNER ON NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION IN OHIO:
Weve got some of the lowest natural gas prices that we have seen in more than a decade. Primarily because they are finding more gas than we ever thought we had and there is a lot more out there. So using natural gas which costs about 1/3 the price of diesel so if you start converting trucks to natural gas there is no limit on what we can produceThere are probably 10,000 Ohioans that are going to go to work this year in Eastern Ohio as they begin to further develop not only the Marcellus Shale that is up there but there is a lot deeper oil and wet gas in Eastern Ohio.
