California, Another Wasted Weekend

Jeremy T. Sellers

February 23, 2009

I don't think it surprised any of us at Jr's fate this weekend. It's unknown why he has never run well at California, but can turn it around at its sister track, Michigan. So with that said, THAT is not why I titled the article as I did, it was expected.

However, if it wasn't for mother nature, there would have only been one caution the entire race as the cars ran around in lack-luster style, with very little passing or excitement like every other race at California. I'm still trying to figure out why I stayed up and watched the entire event...fanship, I reckon. That's the best I can come up with. Fox tried their best to dramaticize the race every chance they were given, but to the smart fan, to no avail. You keep feeding a cow, hay, and you just get more shit...and that is what racing in Fontana gives the fans. Also, Fox did let it slip that the walk-up ticket lines were busy. I guess it can be looked at two ways. 1. People were still able to buy tickets to the race, or my favorite, 2. Continuing proof that Auto Club Speedway still has trouble with presale ticket packages. Fans aren't stupid, but NASCAR was for giving this venue of the turds TWO dates a season.

Also, Jim pointed something out via text message that I would have overlooked, but is certainly worth mentioning. Did anyone else notice Ryan Newman's paint scheme? If any of you can track down pictures of his car from this weekend, it will surly bring back memories of the Intimidator. Too soon? Probably not, but as Jim stated, it took "balls" to pull off.

See you in Sin City!
