The largest European automaker is currently enjoying much success and it is evident in the company's sales output. Volkswagen has broken sales record for the first half of the year. From January to June this year, the automaker has delivered 2.11 million vehicles all over the world. The number of vehicles sold by the automaker for the first half of the year is 7.9 percent more than their sales output for the first half of 2006.
The increased sale for the automaker continued in July. Last month, the automaker reported that they have sold 310,000 vehicles. That figure is 10.5 percent more than the company's sales for the same month last year. The figures stated do not include sales for the subsidiary of the automaker. It corresponds only to the sales for the Volkswagen brand. Sale of Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, and Skoda units are not included. Together, these brands combine to make Volkswagen AG the fourth largest automaker in the world behind Toyota, General Motors, and Ford.
As can be expected, the automaker is excited by the way their sales are picking up. Dr. Michael Kern, the brand sales and marketing director, said that they are looking for sales to further increase in the following months. "We have never sold so many Volkswagen vehicles in this period before. We look forward with confidence to the month ahead," said Dr. Kern.
Although the United States is the largest auto market in the world, Volkswagen sold the most number of vehicles in any country in China. The booming Chinese economy has seen the Chinese auto market increase almost exponentially. Volkswagen sold 443,000 vehicles in the said Asian country for the first half of the year. This shows an increase of 25.4 as compared to the same period last year. Although the automaker has posted an increase in double figures in sales in China, that country does not hold the distinction of having the highest sales increase. In Brazil, Volkswagen sold 261 Volkswagen vehicles, an increase of 30.3 percent compared to the first half of 2006.
The current lineup of the German automaker ranges from the compact Fox with its Volkswagen Fox radiator to the Phaeton, an executive limousine. Between these two auto models, Volkswagen boasts of the Eos, the Jetta, the New Beetle, the Passat, the Rabbit, and the Touareg among others.
In the United States auto market, Volkswagen's share in the auto market is also growing. In the future, the automaker is looking to introduce diesel cars to the North American car market for wide usage. Its subsidiary, Audi, is in the forefront of the development of new generation diesel engines. If American consumers like what they see with Volkswagen diesel cars, it can be expected that the automaker sill once again break sales record.
In Europe, the automaker's Polo BlueMotion is considered to be the cleanest car. The Department for Transportation of the United Kingdom created a site in partnership with What Car? to inform consumers how much greenhouse gas does a particular car emits. The diesel powered Polo Blue Motion topped the list with less greenhouse gas emission than the Toyota Prius. This is also another reason why Volkswagen is looking for increased sale in the near future.
