FBI Announces $25,000 Reward in North Carolina Gold Heist

FBI Miami
25 March 2015

Special Agent Michael D. Leverock
(754) 703-2000

The FBI seeks the public’s assistance for any information regarding the robbery of a tractor-trailer carrying precious metals that occurred in Wilson County, North Carolina, on March 1, 2015.

On March 1, the tractor trailer departed Miami and was scheduled to arrive in Boston on March 2.

Around 6:30 p.m. on March 1, while traveling on Interstate 95 in Wilson County, North Carolina, the occupants of the tractor-trailer pulled over along the side of the Interstate. The cause for the stop is still under investigation.

After stopping, the truck and its occupants were set upon by at least two armed males who announced themselves as “Policia” and placed traffic cones near the truck. The two males, who gave instructions in Spanish, restrained the truck’s occupants and led them into the woods before making entry into the trailer and stealing approximately $4.9 million in gold bars.

The two males departed the scene in a white van.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the individuals responsible for this robbery and the recovery of the gold.
