Chrysler To Connect Soldiers With Families

Anthony Fontanelle
December 18, 2007

With the holiday season just around the corner, Chrysler announced that they would be helping families of soldiers stationed in Iraq connect with their families in cooperation with Freedom Calls Foundation. According to the automaker, families in southeast Michigan will be able to place a video call to a family member stationed in Iraq. Families will be able to talk to their loved ones abroad at Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan until January 14 next year.

Families interested about this initiative can contact Chrysler through (248) 512-HERO or they can send an e-mail to HERO@chrysler.com to schedule the time when they can call their loved ones in Iraq. The automaker will give them up to 30 minutes to reconnect with their loved ones.

The soldier that interested families will call should be stationed (or can be at) one of the four stations where video conference equipments are available and scheduled for use. These four stations are Camp Taji, Camp Fallujah, Al Asad Air Base, and Camp Victory.

Bob Nardelli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chrysler LLC, the makers of Dodge brake calipers, had this to say according to The Auto Channel: "It is important that we show our appreciation to our soldiers and continue to stand by our military families as they sacrifice so much to defend our country. By making our video conferencing facilities available for military families to reconnect during the holidays, Chrysler adds to a long legacy of support for those who wear the uniform and preserve our way of life."

Nardelli will be the one to kick off the event when he speaks with Spc. Sean Stamps from Pontiac, Michigan serving in Iraq stationed at Camp Taji. The family of the soldier will also be present to talk to the soldier for the first time in seven months.

Freedom Calls Foundation is a non-profit organization, the mission of which is to provide state-of-the-art communication resources to families with family members serving in Iraq. Today, the organization administers more than 2,000 calls totaling over 1.5 million minutes every month for families in the United States calling family members stationed in Iraq.

John B. Harlow II, Founder and Executive Director of the Freedom Calls Foundation, had this to say: "We are excited that Chrysler has made their video conference resources available and partnered with the Freedom Calls Foundation to help military families reconnect for the holidays. This effort will make a difference in the lives of many families this holiday season."
