Formula One Looking At Rescheduling Canceled Bahrain Grand Prix

Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone says he is hoping the canceled season-opening Grand Prix race in Bahrain can be rescheduled for later in the season.

The race was canceled by Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa following pro-democracy demonstrations in the country that led to violent confrontations with police. The Bahrain Grand Prix had been set for March 13.

Ecclestone said Tuesday he would like the race to be held during the sport's scheduled three-week break in August, if Bahrain's Crown Prince believes the country is ready to host it.

However, Ecclestone says Bahrain would have to request a new race, and the decision to change the Formula One schedule would have to be made before the season starts. The season is now set to begin March 27 at the Australia Grand Prix in Melbourne.
