Honda began racing in Formula 1 starting in 1964 with driver Ronnie Bucknum. The first Grand Prix win in a Honda would come at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix with Richie Ginther driving. Honda withdrew from Formula 1 later that decade.
Honda became the sole engine supplier to the Indy Racing League starting in 2006 after previously competing in the series.
Honda also has a new Formula 1 program. It was originally a joint venture with BAR, but Honda took full control of the team in late 2005.
