Return to Ford

Ford was an early competitor in NASCAR.  The first Grand National win in a Ford came in 1950 in Dayton, Ohio with Jimmy Florian at the wheel.

Ford had a 6-year unbroken streak as champion of the Australian Touring Car Championship from 1964 to 1969, the first year in a Cortina GT and the rest in the Mustang.  Fords, including the Falcon and Sierra RS500, would go on to win 14 of the 33 total Australian Touring Car Championships until 1992, when the series began a period of evolution that changed it into V8 Supercars Australia.  Ian Geoghegan and Dick Johnson accounted for 5 championships each, Allan Moffatt won three and Norm Beechey once.

In the modern V8 Touring Cars/V8 Supercars Australia series, the Ford Falcon has accumulated 6 of 14 championships.

Currently NASCAR's top series, the Nextel Cup, uses Fusions.  The F-150 has competed in NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series since the series started.

Cosworth provided engines named as Fords to Formula 1 teams for decades, winning 176 races from 1967 to 2003.
