The Ford Fusion is a four-door, five passenger mid-size sedan manufactured and marketed by Ford across three generations in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. Introduced for model year 2006, the Fusion is manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico along with its rebadged variant the Lincoln MKZ — and formerly with its now discontinued rebadged variant, the Mercury Milan, all sharing the CD3 platform.
Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.
The third generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia, as Ford Mondeo, are expected to begin in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name will be used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Ford Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The European Ford Fusion is a high roof B-segment Mini MPV based on the Ford Fiesta supermini, manufactured and marketed by Ford Europe from 2002 to 2012. It was launched in August 2002.
Ford also used the name “Fusion” before the launch of the European Ford Focus, in communications with contractors working on elements of that model's launch publicity. Ford did not reveal whether the late change to “Focus” had been the result of a genuine change in its plans, or simply a desire to conceal the real name from the press until the company was ready for the launch.
In November 2005, a revised version of the Fusion went on sale. A number of cosmetic changes were introduced: both front and rear lights featured new detailing; and bumpers, side mouldings and door mirrors were also altered. Furthermore, a bright new colour palette was introduced. Inside, the dashboard featured both a new design, and high quality 'soft touch' materials.
A new analogue instrument display features in a style similar to the Mk 2 Ford Focus.
Advanced new technology was also made available, including power folding mirrors, automatic and 'home safe' headlights, automatic windscreen wipers, Bluetooth with voice control, Trip computer, MP3 player connectivity and the Electronic Stability Program. In the United Kingdom, the car was available in Style+, Zetec and Titanium trim levels. (1, 2, 3 and '+' were the trim levels for the original Fusion).
Equipment on the entry level 1 included central locking, and dual front airbags. The 2 featured electric heated mirrors, electric front windows, a CD player and air conditioning. The 3 added alloy wheels, front fog lights and an alarm. The + model added larger alloys and privacy glass. This + model was introduced in May 2002.
A no frills Crossover SUV version of the Fusion called the Ford EcoSport is produced in Brazil and sold in many Latin American countries. In December 2002, on Top Gear, it won the Most Pointless Car for being, as Richard Hammond described it, “a Ford Fiesta, in a hat.”
Championships
The Fusion was replaced by the Mustang for the 2019 season, but Joey Logano won a championship in the Fusion's last season in NASCAR Cup Series competition.
