U.S. Route 66

The most famous of the United States Numbered Highways, known as the "Mother Road."

Route 66 has been a subject of books and films.  The story of a mostly-abandoned desert town along a forgotten strech of the road was a major theme in the Disney/Pixar film Cars.  A road trip on the highway was the subject of the 2004 film Route 66:  An American (bad)Dream.
