Basketball
The Indiana Pacers (Indianapolis 500) and Detroit Pistons (auto industry) have names that can be traced back to automotive influences.
The National Industrial Basketball League (NIBL) existed from 1947-1963, and consisted of teams sponsored by industrial companies and consisted of their employees. Teams with automotive themes included the Akron Goodyear Wingfoots, Bartlesville Phillips 66ers, Denver Chevvies, Denver D-C Truckers, San Francisco Stewart Chevrolets. The Denver Truckers and Akron Wingfoots names would survive as NABL teams into the 2000s.
A road sign reading "Maynard 8 Miles" is the poster image and source of the title of the 2017 film by that name.
