NASCAR Winston Cup: Dale Earnhardt (Chevrolet/Oldsmobile) ARCA Racing Series: Bob Dotter (Buick)

The 1980 season would bring the first of Dale Earnhardt's record-tying seven championships, and his only one outside of a Richard Childress car.  In 1980, Childress was still a driver, finishing 10th in points in the season.
